Europe - 2016
I spent summer 2016 living and studying in Italy, going back and forth between Rome and the hills of Abruzzo. While I spent a majority of my free time in Italian cities, I did visit a decent number of other countries throughout the summer — Malta, France, Monaco, Germany, England, Ireland, and Scotland. (I happened to land in the UK the week after the Brexit vote. Now that deserves a story of its own.) This summer taught me a lot about how I like to travel, and how I don’t. I now know that I prefer to spend a long time in one place, rather than visit several at a rapid fire pace. This was also my first time traveling alone.
I anxiously await the day I can to return to Europe in a slower manner. As a young American, Europe and the UK calm me down. These people aren’t working themselves up into a frenzy trying to get anywhere. Their history has taken them through it all. And yet, here they are… still sipping their coffees, waiting on their late busses, and eating their four course dinners at 10:00pm.
