Iceland - 2021
Iceland reopened their borders in May 2021 and I was on the next plane. I had been wanting to visit this country for a while, and I knew experiencing it while it was still relatively ‘empty’ from other tourists was likely a once-in-a-lifetime chance. A friend and I rented a car to live out of and drove a full circle around the country over the course of a week and a half. Hard set on not using any technology beyond cameras, we purchased a giant map and asked several gas station attendants for recommendations. In the following days, we witnessed midnight sun for the first time; watched a volcano erupt in real-time; swam in multiple lagoons; drank from waterfalls; deep breathed glacier air; frequently tested the limits of our rental car; and often questioned if we were simply on another planet. I could try (and fail) to tell you how beautiful it was, but fortunately these landscapes speak for themselves.
